New 20-storey commercial building in the City of London, integrating with the public realm of New Street Square.
Sturgis Carbon Profiling produced a preliminary embodied carbon and recycled content assessment of the proposals and a comparison to similar benchmark schemes. Design team workshops were organized to identify opportunities for reducing the embodied carbon of the building through considering design, construction and operation measures that could be employed.
SCP liaised with design team members to identify which measures could be adopted through consideration of cost, structural, MEP, and architectural design. Its input to design specification was used to ensure the contractor is made aware of the measures required to achieve the proposed embodied carbon reduction targets. The carbon analysis also contributed to value engineering by focussing on material efficiency measures.
SCP is working with main contractor to monitor and validate the embodied carbon reductions during the construction phase. The project recycled content target is 20%.
